For America’s Foreign Affairs to be as effective as possible it is important that we have an understanding of the history, culture, politics, resources, and priorities of the countries with which we are dealing. After WWII America was the colasuss of the world, able to dictate the actions of other countries. Success in the 21st century will be based more on dealing with all countries with respect and appreciation of their uniqueness. Most of American’s education in history is focused on Western Europe. This is a dangerous myoptic perspective that fosters the false belief that everyone else in the world shares our values and beliefs.
